Being Sent Off with a Bang: The Bullet Urn(s) from 'Holy Smoke'

By

Never say you've seen everything, as some creative guy or gal will come up with some new twist on an old idea, and there is not much older of an idea and consequence than death.

At Holy Smoke they've come up with the idea of sending off your loved one with a bang. Ashes from the deceased can be placed in several types of shells and shot off in memory.

Just think. If someone is being buried with a gun salute, they could be the ammo inserted. I know. I know. They don't use live rounds, but it's still an interesting thought.

So how much will this little send off cost you? For a mere $1,250, you can place the ashes in 250 shot gun shells, 100 rifle cartridges, or 250 pistol cartridges. This is what you get with one pound of ash.

If you want a box to hold the shells in, you can fork out another $100 for each one.

You could shoot off one box at a time and call it urn churn. Now that's a catchy phrase.

Now wouldn't it be something to pull out some ammo for hunting, and end up shooting a duck with granny accidently. She's gone and still putting food on the table though.

This is an image from the Holy Smoke site. The image itself is great, but it makes you wonder if that's part of your loved ones ashes ejecting with the shells. Whatever happened to RIP?

To me, this is a great piece of advertising from the Holy Smoke bullet urn website. You get the feel of the dog having finished his last hunt with his master, or that his master has died and he's contemplating the loss. Either way, the photo itself is a terrific one.

For some people they won't be able to relate to a service offered like this, but for the millions of hunters and shooting fans out there, it could in fact be a very emotional and compelling way to have a last hunt or shoot with your late loved one.
